What a wild ride! The legislative session is now behind us, and the attempt to override Governor Gordon’s vetoes failed due to the House failing to get 50%+1 (32 votes) of the chamber to vote in favor of a special session.
The House fell short by just 5 votes, while the Senate hit the exact majority required, 16 votes.
Keep in mind, in the Wyoming House, there are only 5 Democrats out 62 members, and in the Senate, there are only 2 Democrats in a chamber of 31.
Our state Senator (Charlie Scott) and I both voted in favor of a special session to override Governor Gordon’s vetoes on bills that overwhelmingly passed both chambers, some with support from legislators in each party, and from opposite sides of the Republican spectrum.
Many bills vetoed by Governor Gordon were important to the people of Wyoming.
Sadly, it seems as though there was a lot of political theater and political grandstanding taking place by many RINO legislators.
Many were willing to vote for these important pieces of legislation in an election year, — for the purposes of election fodder– but were not willing to put their money where their mouth is when it was time for the rubber to meet the road.
At the end of this update is a full list of how members of the Wyoming House voted concerning a special session to override Governor Gordon’s vetoes on several very important pieces of legislation.
